Celebrate Valentine’s Day with shared recipes from Frankenmuth baking contest

March 6, 2024

On the Tuesday night before Zehnder’s Snowfest 2024 annual “All Things Chocolate Recipe Baking Contest,” the first major event of the 33rd Snowfest event in Frankenmuth, Mich., Betty Timmreck was in a hotel room with an array of cake decorating utensils, including pastry bags with flower and writing tips and containers of freshly baked brownies cut into perfect squares. She also had frosting, raspberries rolled in egg whites and sugar, and chocolate hardened into decorative shapes.

Timmreck, who lives in Eau Claire, had been among a select few whose recipes had been chosen to present at the baking contest. She hadn’t wanted to assemble the brownies she had made at home before traveling the five hours to Frankenmuth. So, instead, she brought along a mini-kitchen set-up so she could do so close to the time when she would present her Raspberry Frosted Brownie Delight to the panel of judges and where they would be put on display for the more than 100,000 people expected to attend the five-day Snowfest, an event that grows larger and larger each year.
