A pot of chili is perfect for warming up on a chilly winter day. Create your own signature chili recipe with ground beef, beans, tomatoes, and spices. Top it with shredded cheese, sour cream, and chopped green onions. Here’s a recipe for a hearty and flavorful chili that’s perfect for warming up during the winter months:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef (you can also use ground turkey or ground chicken)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cans (14 ounces each) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to your spice preference)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup corn kernels (fresh, frozen, or canned)
  • Shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, and chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

1. Brown the Ground Meat:
In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until it’s browned and crumbled. If you’re using lean meat, you may not need to drain excess fat. If using fattier meat, drain any excess fat.

2. Sauté Onions, Garlic, and Peppers:
Add the chopped onions, minced garlic, and both red and green bell peppers to the pot with the browned meat. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables start to soften.

3. Add Tomatoes and Sauce:
Pour in the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir to combine everything in the pot.

4. Season and Simmer:
Add the kidney beans, chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to the pot. Stir well to combine all the ingredients. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the chili simmer for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

5. Add Corn:
About 10 minutes before serving, add the corn kernels to the chili. Cook until they are heated through.

6. Taste and Adjust:
Taste the chili and adjust the seasoning to your liking. If you want it spicier, add more cayenne pepper. If you want it milder, reduce the amount of chili powder.

7. Serve:
Ladle the hearty chili into bowls and garnish with shredded cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and chopped green onions if desired.

8. Enjoy:
Serve your hearty chili piping hot as a comforting winter meal. It’s great on its own or with a side of cornbread, tortilla chips, or a slice of crusty bread. This homemade chili is packed with flavor and warmth, making it the perfect choice for a cozy winter dinner.
