Thai Basil Beef (Pad Gra Prow)

April 11, 2023

The aroma of Thai basil beef wafting through the kitchen is enough to make my mouth water. It’s the kind of dish that satisfies my cravings and leaves me wanting more. Try making this delicious Thai basil beef recipe at home!

Despite the late hour and the comfort of my couch, I’m considering getting up and making some Thai basil beef. Even if my more flimsy impulses won out and I went into the kitchen right now to prepare it, I’d be back on the couch with a steaming bowl in less than fifteen minutes because of how simple the process is; absolutely anyone can make it. It’s one of my standard weeknight meals because it only takes fifteen minutes to prepare.

You can find Thai basil in some supermarkets and Asian markets if you’ve never tried it. You can use regular Italian basil if you can’t find Thai basil. Although the cinnamon flavor won’t be spot-on, it should be close enough for most people. Let the cooking begin!

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. of oil
  • 12 oz. of beef (sliced thinly against the grain and mixed with 1 tsp. of oil and 2 tsp. of cornstarch)
  • 5 cloves of garlic (chopped)
  • ½ of a red bell pepper (sliced thinly)
  • 1 small onion (thinly sliced)
  • 2 tsp. of soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. of dark soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. of oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp. of fish sauce
  • ½ tsp. of sugar
  • 1 cup of thai basil leaves (packed)
  • cilantro (to garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Put the oil in a hot wok. Brown, the beef on all sides, then take it out of the wok.
  2. Stir-fry the garlic and red pepper flakes for 20 seconds. Cook the onions until they are brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and sugar, and return the beef to the pan. Add the Thai basil and stir-fry for a few seconds or until it has wilted. Garnish with cilantro and serve over jasmine rice.
