Charleston Native Stephen Colbert Is Bringing His Signature Humor to a New Cookbook

February 29, 2024

Charlestonians Stephen and Evie McGee Colbert recently announced they will release a cookbook this fall. Celadon Books will publish Does This Taste Funny: Recipes Our Family Loves on September 17. The book will cover Lowcountry cuisine and recipes like Stephen’s Kindergarten Soup, spicy lemon chicken thighs, and the Colbert Bump Cocktail.

Stephen and Evie grew up in the Holy City but didn’t meet until their mid-twenties. Now they are married with three kids and are the founders of Spartina Industries, which produces The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, among many other shows over the years, like The Colbert Report.

In addition to the over 100 recipes, the book will also contain “banter, reminiscences and stories” along with captivating food photos and images of the Colberts in their home.

Judging by the cover, readers can expect recipes for pickled shrimp, boiled peanuts, cornbread, and what appears to be a tomato soup that is being poured over Stephen’s crossed hands.
