The 2024 Derby Burger Challenge Cook-off will feature the top four burger recipes selected by judges from numerous submissions. Food enthusiasts are invited to participate in the voting process to determine the finalists who will compete on March 12.

2024 Derby Burger Semi-Finalist Recipes
- Grant Ruble’s Candy Dan: Featuring candied thick-cut bacon, Murray’s Gouda cheese, hickory bacon, and Kroger Sweet & Tangy BBQ sauce.
- Chase Schnatter’s Chipotle ¡ _Ole!: A unique blend of cinnamon, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, Roma tomato, jalapeno, cilantro, lime juice, Gruyere cheese, and avocado.
- Stacy Hoehle’s _Derby P.L.T. Burger: Consisting of fried green tomato slices, remoulade, and pimento cheese.
- Stephanie Brunell’s _Greek Feta Beef Burger: Infused with oregano, parsley, mint, basil, garlic cloves, roasted red pepper, lemon, crumbled feta, tzatziki sauce, tomato, and olive oil.
- Lisa Smith’s _Hangover Helper: Comprising spicy guacamole, sharp cheddar cheese slice, smoke center cut bacon, and an over-easy egg.
- Ira Mowman’s _Jamaican Jerk Burger: Seasoned with Caribbean Rhythms Jerk Seasoning, pineapple, bell peppers, parsley, cilantro, Malibu Rum, Gouda, and arugula.
- Brian Capps’ _Pesto Provolone Burger: Featuring Provolone cheese, DeLallo Traditional Basil Simply Pesto, and tomato.
- Chastity Owens’ _Southern Smasher: With hand-battered fried green tomatoes, applewood smoked bacon, and American cheese.

All burgers in the competition must be crafted from 100% Kentucky Cattlemen’s Ground Beef and incorporate Dan-O’s Seasoning. Judging criteria include Taste, Appearance, Creativity, and Ease of Preparation.
The Derby Burger Champion will have the honor of showcasing their burger at Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront during the Derby Festival and in Kroger stores. Additionally, they will receive a special prize package from KDF, along with two VIP tickets to the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport Thunder VIP Rooftop Party.
