You’ve decreed that 2024 is going to be the year you cook more and rely on Deliveroo and meal deals less but you’re already bored of your regular rotation of dishes and are struggling for inspo in the kitchen. Sound familiar? We hear you and we’ve got you.

We’ve rounded up some of the best recipes that deliver big flavour without requiring you to source obscure ingredients and use every single pot, pan and utensil you own. The seasons may be changing but there’ll always be a place for comfort food – especially as the weather doesn’t always play ball. That’s why we’ve taken inspo from the currently gripping the capital and rounded up some nostalgic -inspired dishes to keep you well-fed. From spaghetti and meatballs to pizza bowls, here are five hearty recipes to whip up.

Spaghetti & Meatballs | Notorious Foodie

As well as being an absolute classic and the cornerstone of Italian-American cuisine, spaghetti and meatballs is pretty easy to make at home. You can use whatever blend of meats you like – Notorious Foodie uses three in his recipe – and you can batch-make these so you always have a stash on hand. The same goes for his tomato sauce, which you can spend time over at the weekend and then dip into during the week when you want a speedy meal.

Spaghetti Bolognese | Gizzi Erskine

You can’t beat a good spag bol, particularly this one from Gizzi Erskine, which she pimps with chicken livers for an extra rich ragu (it’s also a great way to start cooking with offal if that’s something you’re leaning into). It’s one to take your time over, perhaps for a leisurely Sunday cook, as caramelising the beef and simmering the tomato sauce adds proper depth – and yes it’s another great one to batch cook.
