Caramel apples and fall go together like peas and carrots. The hint of spices makes these caramel apple cookies perfect for fall. They are soft, sticky, and gooey. There’s a slight crunch from the walnuts and a subtle burst of sweetness from the bits of chopped apples.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c chopped apples (I used Honeycrisp)
- 1 c shortening
- 1 c brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 c granulated sugar
- 2 lg eggs
- 1/2 c buttermilk
- 3 c all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 1 bag of Kraft caramels
- 3/4 c walnuts
