“It’s super-rare for a piece of kitchen kit to revolutionise how people are choosing to cook in the way the air fryer has done. At first, I was sceptical, but as soon as I started to test and play around with ideas, settings and new ways to create flavour and texture, I was totally hooked,” Oliver said.

“In my mind, anything that gets people cooking is a win. And the fact that the air fryer uses less energy, saves time and creates much less washing-up – all while turning out delicious, nutritious food – can only be a good thing.

“It’s a great solution for the modern family, where days are often hectic and decent meals are needed, fast.”

Oliver began posting air fryer recipes on his website last year and said they have been “a huge hit”, with more than 500,000 views so far. Recipes there include bubble and squeak, cauliflower curry and oat cookies.

Potato recipes and spiced lamb chops

He even recommends cooking bacon in an air fryer, for which he advises three minutes of cooking time at 200 degrees farenheit.

The programme will feature Poppy O’Toole, a chef and TikTok influencer who specialises in potato recipes, and Sabrina Gidda, the author of Modern South Asian Cuisine, who will use the gadget to cook spiced lamb chops.

Katie Millard, of Jamie Oliver Productions, said: “Working with our long-term partner, Tefal, Jamie was able to respond to the huge public demand for more air fryer recipes and loved every second developing the new recipes.

“As this series will show, there is so much more to an air fryer than nuggets and chips.”

Oliver is not the first celebrity chef to embrace air fryers, which began gaining in popularity during lockdown and are said to be quicker and more economical than an oven.

Nigella Lawson used one of the gadgets for the first time during her 2023 Christmas special after previously admitting: “I know nothing of the world of air fryers.”

Demonstrating a recipe for Indonesian biryani, she placed the skin from chicken thighs into an air fryer to make crackling, which she sprinkled over the finished dish.
