While most of these margs will need the same basic ingredients, here are a few different takes that you can easily make at home.

Classic margarita

You can’t go wrong with a classic margarita on National Margarita Day. If you’re not sure how to make one, here’s all you need to get started:

  • 2 ounces tequila (brand of your preference)
  • 1 ounce orange liquer (triple sec)
  • 2 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 ounce simple syrup
  • Salt, for the rim (optional)
  • Lime wedges for garnish

Once you have all those ingredients, you’ll need to combine them (minus the salt and lime wedges) in a shaker or mixer of some kind. Give the concoction a good shaking over ice before pouring into a margarita glass.

If you want a frozen margarita, you’ll also need a blender. Again, mix all those ingredients into your blender and blend until it’s as smooth as you want.

Strawberry margarita

If you want a little bit of fruity flavor for your marg, you can’t go wrong with strawberries. To make a strawberry margarita you’ll need:

  • 2 ounces tequila (brand of your preference)
  • 1 ounce orange liqueur (triple sec)
  • 1 1/4 cups strawberries (fresh or frozen and thawed)
  • 1/4 ounce simple syrup
  • 2 ounces lime juice
  • Salt, for the rim (optional)
  • Lime wedges for garnish

This recipe will require a blender, as you can add all these ingredients together with some ice to make a perfect frozen margarita (and then add the salt and lime wedges for garnish).

If, however, you want it on the rocks, that’s no worry! Just blend the strawberries into a nice juice and add some of that to your regular margarita recipe to taste.

Winter margarita

National Margarita Day comes in the middle of the coldest time of the year for those in the northern hemisphere. If you’re looking for a way to have a margarita and warm up, the winter margarita is the way to go. You’ll need:

  • 2 ounces tequila (brand of your preference)
  • 1 ounce orange liqueur (triple sec)
  • 2 ounces lime juice
  • 2 ounces grapefruit juice
  • Salt, for the rim (optional)
  • Lime wedges for garnish

Once again, just like the two recipes above, this marg can be served frozen or on the rocks depending on your preference. The only real change you need to make is adding the grapefruit juice.

Spicy margarita

Finally, if you like to live dangerously, the spicy margarita is a great way to put a little heat into your body this winter. Just get the following:

  • 2 ounces tequila (brand of your preference)
  • 1 ounce orange liquer (triple sec)
  • 2 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 ounce simple syrup
  • 1/4 to 1/2 jalapeno, sliced
  • Salt, for the rim (optional)
  • Lime wedges for garnish

You might think that you’re only going to use the jalapenos as garnish, like you do with the lime wedge. But, in fact, you want to just leave one or two slices of jalapeno for the garnish. The rest of it is going right into the mixture to be blended (or shaken) in with the margarita, giving the drink some extra heat.
