LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Calling all foodies! The Kentucky Derby Festival (KDF) needs your help choosing the next Derby Burger Champion.

Dozens of original recipes were submitted for this year’s , officials said. Judges have narrowed down those submissions to the top eight recipes.

Voting has opened for the community to choose which four chefs will move on to the 2024 Derby Burger Challenge Cook-off on March 12.
2024 Derby Burger Semi-Finalist Recipes
- Grant Ruble’s Candy Dan (Candied thick-cut bacon, Murray’s Gouda cheese, hickory bacon, Kroger Sweet & Tangy BBQ sauce)
- Chase Schnatter’s Chipotle ¡Ole! (Cinnamon, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, Roma tomato, jalapeno, cilantro, lime juice, Gruyere cheese, avocado)
- Stacy Hoehle’s Derby P.L.T. Burger (Fried green tomato slices, remoulade, pimento cheese)
- Stephanie Brunell’s Greek Feta Beef Burger (Oregano, parsley, mint, basil, garlic cloves, roasted red pepper, lemon, crumbled feta, tzatziki sauce, tomato, olive oil)
- Lisa Smith’s Hangover Helper (Spicy guacamole, sharp cheddar cheese slice, smoke center cut bacon, over-easy egg)
- Ira Mowman’s Jamaican Jerk Burger (Caribbean Rhythms Jerk Seasoning, pineapple, red, green, yellow and orange bell peppers, parsley, cilantro, Malibu Rum, Gouda, arugula)
- Brian Capps’ Pesto Provolone Burger (Provolone cheese, DeLallo Traditional Basil Simply Pesto, tomato)
- Chastity Owens’ Southern Smasher (Hand-battered fried green tomatoes, applewood smoked bacon, American cheese)

From now until Feb. 28, you can vote for your favorite burger recipe.

The annual KDF competition requires every burger be made of 100% Kentucky Cattlemen’s Ground Beef and include Dan-O’s Seasoning in the recipe.
Recipes are judged based on Taste, Appearance, Creativity and Ease of Preparation.
The Derby Burger Champion will have their burger featured at Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront during the Derby Festival as well as inside Kroger stores. They’ll also receive a special prize package from KDF, including two VIP tickets to the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport Thunder VIP Rooftop Party.
