You might find yourself making steamed broccoli once a week if you have a reliable recipe for it. This dish is just what you need. Make a delicious sauce to spread over the broccoli as they steam. In just ten minutes, your side dish will be ready.

Broccoli is a go-to vegetable since it is inexpensive, nutritious, and simple to cook. Not to mention, it complements a wide range of wardrobe staples.

Please give this dish a try if you don’t like broccoli since it was always microwaved in a package or overcooked on the stove when you were a kid, and it was always bland and soggy.

Why Steam Broccoli

Compared to other cooking methods, such as microwaving, boiling, or stir-frying, steaming broccoli preserves the vegetable’s nutritional value to the greatest extent.

Broccoli loses neither its vivid green color nor its crisp-tender texture if steamed for the appropriate period of time.

After you’ve mastered the method, it is also one of the simplest approaches to preparing broccoli.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of broccoli florets
  • 1 clove of garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1 tablespoon of neutral oil
  • 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce or vegetarian oyster sauce
  • 2 teaspoons of light soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground white pepper or black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Bring water to a boil, place the broccoli in a bamboo or metal steamer, wok with a steaming rack, or metal steaming basket, or use our no-equipment technique.
  2. Broccoli can be cooked in a steamer from 4 minutes (for crunchier broccoli) to 7 minutes (for more tender broccoli), depending on how soft you like it. The size of the broccoli florets will also affect how long they need to cook; smaller florets will take less time to cook, while larger florets will need more.
  3. Sauce should be prepared in the meantime. Put the oil and garlic in a small saucepan and warm them over medium heat. Soften the garlic for 30 seconds (no browning is desired). Bring the water, oyster sauce, light soy sauce, sesame oil, and pepper to boil.
  4. Combine everything and heat to a low boil, stirring occasionally. When it reaches a simmer, remove it from the stove.
  5. Just before serving, sprinkle the sauce over the steamed broccoli. Serve.
