National Strawberry Day: Recipes that are a must-try

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Tuesday is National Strawberry Day, which celebrates juicy, sweet berries that can brighten up any dish and are delicious on their own.

There are several different stories about how the name “strawberries” came to be, such as how the berries would drop off the leaves and become “strewn” about the plant, and over time “strewn-berries” become “strawberries,” according to the .

Another story is there was a time when strawberry beds were mulched with straw, which insulated the plants over the winter, keeping weeds at bay during the growing season, and making them easier to harvest, and some gardeners still do this today.
